The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers minors in either chemistry or biochemistry.
Below are the required courses to obtain a minor in either chemistry or biochemistry.

• General Chemistry
  • One of the following General Chemistry Sequences:
    
    • CHEM 1113/1114 (1111) (5) and CHEM1133/1134 (1131)(5)
    • CHEM 1351(5) and CHEM 1371(5)

• Organic Chemistry
  • One of the following Organic Chemistry Sequences including lab:
    
    • Lecture:
      • CHEM 3311(4) and CHEM 3331(4)
        
      • CHEM 3351(4) and CHEM 3371(4)
    • Lab:
      
      • CHEM 3321(1) and CHEM 3341(1)
      • CHEM 3361(2) and CHEM 3381(2)
        

• Physical Chemistry
  • CHEM 4411(3) or CHEM 4511(3)

	Note: Physical Chemistry 1 has a prerequisite of calculus 3 and a prerequisite or co-requisite of PHYS 1120(4).

• One of the Following:
  • CHEM 4431(3) or CHEM 4531(3) - Physical Chemistry 2
  • CHEM 4011(3) - Inorganic Chemistry
  • CHEM 4171(3) - Instrumental Analysis

	Note: CHEM 4011 has Physical Chemistry 1 as a prerequisite and Physical Chemistry 2 as a co-requisite or prerequisite.

	Note: Note: Physical Chemistry 1 has a prerequisite of calculus 3 and a prerequisite or co-requisite of PHYS 1120(4). Engineering students may substitute CHEM 4521 (3) to satisfy this requirement.

• Biochemistry
  • One of the following:
    • CHEM 4611(3)
    • CHEM 4711(3) and CHEM 4731(3)
      

The College of Arts and Sciences will allow a maximum of 9 hours of transfer credit, including 6 upper-division credit hours, to count towards a minor.

These minor programs each require six semesters of CHEM courses. (Students may transfer in through organic chemistry only.) All required courses must be complete with grade of C- or better, and the overall GPA in all CHEM courses taken must be 2.0 or higher.

Students who have taken CHEM 1211 and CHEN 1221 may substitute them for CHEM 1111 in the minor requirements. Engineering students who have taken CHEM 4521 may use this course to satisfy the physical chemistry 1 requirement for both minors.
