Applications of chemical principles to current environmental issues including acid rain, stratospheric ozone depletion, the Antarctic ozone hole, solar energy conversion and fuel cells, and the environmental consequences of nuclear war. Laboratory experience is included.

No credit given to chemistry or biochemistry majors for 1031 if students already have credit in any college-level chemistry course numbered 1111 or higher.

Prereq., CHEM 1011 with a grade of C- or higher. Approved for arts and sciences core curriculum: natural science.
